The great smell of books!

We are pleased to report that the shop is open after recent restrictions on retail were lifted, and so our customers will once again be able to enjoy the smell and feel of fantastic books like this one!

Our secondhand book section has recently had a healthy influx, and some of these books are often sought after and difficult to find. These include full sets such as John Gill's commentary, William Huntington's works, John Owen's seven volumes on Hebrews and many more. To check out our full secondhand listing, click here.

Newly published books are also being added to our shelves regularly including some new titles in the Puritan Paperback series, a new biography of Charles Spurgeon and a comprehensive look at how Christianity transformed the world from Sharon James. This link will take you to all our latest books in stock.

Rare John Calvin Commentary

A first sight of the oldest book we have ever had! The first English translation of Calvin's commentary on 1 John & Jude. It is undated but the British Library officially say c. 1580. It also has a letter written by Calvin from Geneva printed with it at the back. A bibliophile's delight! I love it, but mustn't get too attached, as it may soon be wanted.

Secondhand books

The secondhand book listing has been updated on the site today.  It now contains nearly 4000 titles - so plenty to browse through! This is a fully searchable spreadsheet done in Microsoft Excel, which most people will have bought with their computer, be it PC or Mac. But it can also be opened in freely available programs such as OpenOffice. We have inherited a huge variety of secondhand plus antiquarian books, and we would not like to vouch for each one, but it will certainly repay a look.

February News

The February Bulletin has now gone out to all our customers.  If you haven't received one then have a read on our website here. We've been matchmaking this month so there's some great deals to be found on book couples.
Don't forget we now have secondhand books showing on our website - there are plenty to go at, and the list grows regularly.  If you can't find what you want, just give us a ring because we have lots of books available that haven't yet made it onto the website - we might have just the one you are after.  This month we are offering 25% off all secondhand books when 2 or more are purchased.
Whether you want to buy this month or not, please keep in touch - we love to hear from customers old & new.

Our New Ventures

One end of the technological spectrum to the other - old books and eBooks.  These are the new areas that we are moving into, as you will see on the latest version of our website.  We have taken on most of the secondhand / antiquarian books formerly held by Zoar Books, which ceased trading in September 2011.  Extensive sifting and cataloguing is underway, and the current booklist is now available to search on a secured spreadsheet, which opens from our homepage.  So add the website to your favourites to include in your book searches.  At present you cannot order secondhand books directly from the website, but just drop us an email or phone us about them. There are about 2800 to go at - and counting!
A fast developing sector, although still in its infancy, is eBooks.  We have decided to enter with caution.  Christian Focus Publications have been particularly supportive, and we can offer the eBooks they have available.  Also our own distributed titles will increasingly feature, all being well.  They are in PDF format at the moment, and you will notice that A.B. Hoblyn's tracts are FREE!  We aim to add to the eBook range to bring together some really sound and profitable material in one place.  These are exciting times, and we've only just started!

A nice boost to our New Year!

I know we linked to this on our facebook page, & we don't particularly like blowing our own trumpets but this was a morale boosting review that we couldn't really allow to disappear into the mists of time too easily (and we realise that many of our customers don't see our facebook page).  So thank you to Gervase Charmley, our 'Mystery Shopper'!

Latest News

The day after the night before.  We're just getting the shop back to a Christmas look after a very successful special sales night.  It was really encouraging to see the response to the invitations sent out to this event, when all new books were on sale at a minimum of 20% off, and secondhand books were half price.  It's always good to see local pastors setting an example and heading our way.  Thanks for your support!  Obviously coffee and cakes help oil the wheels on such occasions too...
The last week or so has been particularly busy.  We have also done two external events - bookstalls locally and further afield.  The AV block calendar is selling steadily despite the small price rise which we regretfully had to make.  The Savannah Charity Christmas cards have proved so popular that we are going to get two of the designs reprinted to meet demand.  However it's not just Christmas/New Year stock that has been bought up, but now that we are able to take some of our secondhand books out for browsing through, they have sold well too.  We hope to get a spreadsheet listing of some secondhand stock online soon to give better exposure to them.  Finding the time is the hard part.
