Reading Recommendations...

Our latest eBulletin has been sent out with some new reading recommendations & offers...
In particular this book 'Counting the Cost' has been proving popular and is well reviewed.  It is a sober and inspiring testimony of God's help and grace given while enduring the most terrifying ordeal.  British missionary doctors David and Shirley Donovan were taken hostage with two others by a crazed gang in Nigeria and held to ransom.  Their gripping story is interwoven with their search for meaning in it, and what they came to learn of the sovereignty, yet nearness, of God through it.  It challenges the flabby Christianity too often evident today, and is a humbling and searching book to read, and to confidently recommend to others.

GDP Arrrgh!

I'm sure all of us have had so many letters and emails in the last month relating to GDPR that it has become an ugly word!  For us the feeling has been magnified tenfold.  The time getting up to speed with the new data regulations, and following through on its implications for our small enterprise has been significant.  At the same time we appreciated the need for the new legislation and have embraced the opportunity to streamline our list of contacts to leave on it only those who really want to hear regularly from us.
We have now completed mail outs to all our customers (both snail-mail and email) to obtain explicit consent for receiving newsletters.  However the technical side of this has not run as smoothly as planned (hence scenes like the above in our office last week!).  So, if you did receive a GDPR email from us and clicked on the link to subscribe, be assured that your details have been registered even if you were confused about the form you were presented with afterwards.  We do apologise for this glitch.  But, if you received an email and it got lost amongst the plethora of other GDPR emails, please head to our website homepage and enter your email address to subscribe for our newsletters.
We are legally prevented now from sending out reminders, but via this blog and social media our message to one and all is, if you want to hear of great book offers and reviews SUBSCRIBE TO OUR NEWSLETTER!  You won't regret it!

It's not too late yet!

If you're still wondering what to buy Auntie Gladys for Christmas (or anyone else for that matter), I'm sure we have the perfect book & there is still time to get it to you before Christmas.  Browse the website or give us a call - we are always happy to advise, plus we can even gift wrap it and send it straight to Auntie Gladys if that makes life easier for you!
Daily devotional books are always a welcome gift and there is a nice new one available called A Pilgrim's Treasury - this is a complete Bible Survey from Genesis to Revelation using the popular Pilgrim Bible Notes which have been compiled into book form for the first time. Or how about a lovely leather-look gift edition of daily readings compiled from George Whitefield's writings, or Hawker's Morning and Evening Portions, or Philpot's Through Baca's Vale (which you could even get as an eBook - now wouldn't that be convenient). I could keep going with suggestions, but perhaps a look through our Devotional section would help you make a choice.
If you are buying books for children before the end of the year, don't forget that we are currently offering a selection of children's books on a '3 for 2' deal. Have a read of our December eBulletin which gives details of this offer.

Don't forget LAST POSTING DATES are
WEDNESDAY 18th December for SECOND CLASS
FRIDAY 20th December for FIRST CLASS
We can also use our courier to get last minute deliveries to you right up to Monday 23rd December.

Perfect Holiday Reading!

Those of you who received our August Bulletin have obviously been impressed by our recommended holiday reading for this year because we have now sold out of all the Pocket Puritans we had on offer!
Read the full bulletin here if you haven't already seen it (the trailblazers are still available).
So, to compensate for those who feel they may have missed out, I have rooted around and found some more Pocket Puritans that don't look in tip top condition.  These can go at the bargain price of £2 too!

Repent and Believe! by Thomas Brooks (1 copy available)
Pastoral Ministry by Richard Baxter (1 copy available)
A Way to Pray by Matthew Henry (2 copies available)
Binge Drinking by John Flavel (3 copies available)

Happy Holidays!

It's Olympic Month!

Olympic month has finally arrived and whatever you think of its pagan roots (?!) we can't avoid it this summer in the UK!  We have just emailed out our July Bulletin with offers on books about a true Olympic hero.  Eric Liddell was an Olympic star who considered his service to the Lord a much greater privilege than all his sporting achievements.  He is a true example indeed.
We could also do with your help this month as we have used a different method for sending out our monthly bulletins and would be very grateful if you could let us know if you have any problems viewing the email. (If you don't normally receive our Bulletin and would like to, please let us know - lorna@christianbookshopossett.co.uk).
Any customers who spend the year enjoying our AV Block calendar will have pulled off a voucher at the end of last month for money off any purchases during July.  Don't forget to make use of this before your time is up - it's a great opportunity to pick up some holiday reading.

February News

The February Bulletin has now gone out to all our customers.  If you haven't received one then have a read on our website here. We've been matchmaking this month so there's some great deals to be found on book couples.
Don't forget we now have secondhand books showing on our website - there are plenty to go at, and the list grows regularly.  If you can't find what you want, just give us a ring because we have lots of books available that haven't yet made it onto the website - we might have just the one you are after.  This month we are offering 25% off all secondhand books when 2 or more are purchased.
Whether you want to buy this month or not, please keep in touch - we love to hear from customers old & new.
