Hannah Dunnett

'Christian' greetings cards - some people love them, some hate them.  We sell lots of greetings cards and because we are a Christian Bookshop they all have scripture texts in them.  Amazingly, although we don't showcase our greetings cards on our website, we still manage to sell a lot of them by mail order (mainly older folk who can't get to a shop and know we are willing to sit on the phone describing cards in detail and reading out the contents so they can make an informed choice!)
Last year we took on a new range of cards painted by artist Hannah Dunnett and these have been so popular I just had to get some pictures on here so a wider audience can see them... (click on each picture to be able to read the words clearly)

People buy these for all occasions, as gifts to go in a frame, or they order the poster sized prints from us. We can also get journals with these fantastic designs on.  Have a look at Hannah's website to see the full range.

Christmas Update

We're running desperately late with our December Bulletin so thought I ought to do a little update on Christmas stock.  Books have been flying off the shelves over the last few weeks, but don't worry if the book you are looking for is not in stock, most suppliers are able to send us more stock within a few days so there is still plenty of time to order before Christmas.
Our Charity Christmas cards are sold out apart from 1 design...

Robin & postbox - Pk of 10 Charity Christmas CardsRobin & Postbox Selection - Pk of 12If it's Robins & Postboxes you like we still have plenty of the packs of 12 with 3 designs in...
Have a look at all our remaining cards via this link Christmas Cards

Words of Jesus Calendar2012 calendars are also disappearing fast. The only appointment calendar left is Words of Jesus which is a really nice contemporary style for £3.99.  We have plenty of the AV Block Calendar
plus stock of the TBS calendars (Words of Life & Golden Thoughts).  Take a look at all the calendars on our site for more details.

Give us a call if you have any queries - we will do our best to help.

Xmas Cards and Calendars

Back in the thick of it now, getting the buzz of life in a Christian Bookshop in the run up (it seems so long!) to Christmas. I have been ticked off twice now by customers for using the shorthand 'Xmas' instead of 'Christmas'. Apparently it takes the Christ out of Christmas and is from a secular mindset, but I maintain he was never in it anyway. The Bible is silent about celebrating 25th December, except that if we decide to observe a day or not, the principle is that we do it 'unto the Lord'. So, we sell cards to those who want to send greetings at this time of year, but just have no particular religious fervour in doing so.
Calendars are less contentious at least, although our AV Block Calendar has been slated for supposedly encouraging people to only look at one text of scripture a day! In fact it is intended to send readers to the Bible to look up the context, and we have received much positive feedback over the years to the profit people have found from it. It is selling steadily this year - down to our last 250 now. The message is clear: buy now before it's gone. For just £6.95 plus postage you get the condensed prayerful output of a year's worth of someone's Bible study. We always have to be about a year ahead in order to get it printed on time. The texts for 2009 are now just about ready for proof reading. It's like coping with 2 christmasses at once!

Customers who minister to us

Most customers we enjoy serving, some are more tricky, and some serve us! The latter are the ones I enjoy chatting to the most. They love to talk of the best things, the God they love. Often without realising it, they give us much food for thought. They leave the shop or put down the phone without realising that they have encouarged us to continue in our ministry with renewed enthusiasm. They have very simply shown us why we do what we do.
We have one particular gem of a customer. Naturally speaking she lives a lonely life, but she has her Bible and her Christian books, plus she is a great letter writer. It is through this that she enjoys Christian fellowship with a wide range of people. She visited the shop yesterday. Having lost her husband a few years ago she has also recently been bereaved of her son at a young age. She talked openly about her renewed struggle to understand the sovereignty of God. She mentioned a particular TBS greeting card that she purchased from our shop which she has found very helpful during this difficult period in her life. She wanted more so that she could send it to her many correspondents - both Christian and non-Christian. She wants them to understand who she turns to for her daily strength.
It is wonderful to hear when customers have found profit from the books/cards they buy from us.

BTW, we stock the full range of TBS cards and Bibles. Check them out on their website - http://www.tbs-sales.org/
